I have a stupid question. So I played as a Teenager back in the 2000s this awesome game for a few years. Till today i call it besides Fallout 2 and Gothic 2 one of my favorite games. So after all the years i finnaly baught a PC again and want to play this game again. But i don't know which version to buy. On GOG there is Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire and Jagged Alliance 2. The normal one is 10 € and Wildfire is 5 €.
The small country of Arulco has been taken over by a merciless dictator - and only you can loosen the iron grip! Jagged Alliance 2 Gold Pack immerses you into an elaborate role-playing universe where you will interact with more than 150 characters, recruit your own band of soldiers and create your. Now i did a little bit of research and it seems like Wildfire is the full JA2 expirience with some added content which sounds very nice. But the reviews on GOG are very negative.Besides that on Steam there is Jagged Alliance 2 Gold and Jagged Alliance 2 Classic. Now i am completly confused and really don't know what to buy. So please help me.And i read about the version 1.13 which Adds massive amount of content. I want to try that too. So which Version supports this one.And i hope this game still have the German Synchronisation. That was awesome back than.
And i hope it runs on Windows 10. Read alot about issues. Here's a rundown on the versions you're seeing:Jagged Alliance 2 Wildfire: This is the expanded version which, as I hear it, was demanded by JA2's expansive German fanbase.
Better support for higher resolution, more mercs, a harder campaign. It was released 5 years after the original game by a different publisher.Jagged Alliance 2: Classic is a DLC for Wildfire (sort of) that is the original, unaltered source code of JA2. Looks like from the comments on Steam that this doesn't really work anymore, however.Jagged Alliance 2 Gold is like the 'game of the year edition' even though it was published by a different publisher as well. It includes the original Unfinished Business expansion and retroactively applies all that DLC goodness to the base game.Flashback, Rage, Back in Action, and Crossfire are all newer games that have tried to capture that JA2 spirit but haven't really succeeded. For modding, get Jagged Alliance 2 Gold.
They call the mod version 1.13 because JA2 Gold's final version was 1.12. That's the one that most of the modders are using. If you want to go crazy, visit the Bear's Pit. I haven't really been in the modding world for JA2 in a decade, but this was the most active place. I would strongly suggest buying base Jagged Alliance 2 onWildfire, Gold, Unfinished Business, and all the other variants of the game aren't very well supported by the mod community. While you can make most mods work via a Steam installation it takes a lot more effort.
The GOG installer gives you everything you need to create fresh JA2 installations without any DRM or risk of having your files automatically updated. As far as mods for a first time player, I would suggest playing 1.13 v.7609. There are literally hundreds of 1.13 builds, but 7609 is a stable build from 2014 that is used by many major mods. 1.13 v.7609 is essentially the same game as base JA2 but has a number of extra features, some bugfixes, and IMO generally improved mechanics. There is also a popular AI mod called +AI that improves AI behavior, though this does significantly increase the difficulty. To install a stable version of 1.13 do the following:.
Install clean vanilla Ja2. Download 7609en+Modpack.7z from, unpack over clean ja2, overwrite files. Check the 'Docs' folder for the Windows 8-10 compatibility fix.
Follow the instructions in the readme. If you prefer to use the +AI mod, launch the game using JA2+AI.exe rather than JA2.exe. Adjust.ini values in the editorYou may also want to make some minor edits to the.ini file. 1.13 comes packaged with a GUI-based INI editor tool that makes this very easy.
The biggest difference between classic JA2 and 1.13 is going to be the difficulty. 1.13 gives the Queen a real standing army. Lego indiana jones 2 xbox 360 raiders of the lost ark. She has tons of troops and will aggressively counter-attack the player's holdings. To compensate for this, I recommend slightly boosting player income and slightly reducing the cost of militia.-Change MINEINCOMEPERCENTAGE from 100 to 130 or 150.-Change WHICHMINESHUTSDOWN from -1 to 0-Change DAILYMILITIAUPKEEPGREEN/REGULAR/ELITE to 7/12/15 (or something else suitable)-I would also set MERCSCANDIEONASSIGNMENT to FALSE, but that's a matter of personal preference.EDIT: Seven, the author of the above linked modpack has customized several INI values that significantly move the game away from Vanilla/Base 1.13 settings. These customizations are in the 'User' INI files. Note that the user INI will override the core INI if there is a conflict, so you must confirm that INI values in the user file are also correct.
You can switch between ini files using the drop down in the ini editor. Some key things you should change back:1) Seven has adjusted the AP consumption for running to be 5/tile rather than 4/tile. I am unable to fathom the reasoning behind this, but it completely fucks up the game balance and makes anything other than a static gunline almost impossible.
Go into the user APBPConstants.ini file and edit the 'AP per running tile' value from -7 to -8.2) The user SkillSettings.ini file has also undergone some significant editing. The Autoweapon, Sniper, and Surgeon skills have been heavily nerfed. I strongly reccomend opening the user and 1.13 SkillSettings.ini files alongside each other and undoing the changes. You may want to keep his changes to throwing/demolitions however, as those are actually kind of cool.3) Again, for reasons beyond my comprehension, Seven has decided that you the user are not allowed to decide whether you want Mercs to be on assignment.
There are significant edits to the Recruitment settings, so check both here. The user SkillSettings.ini file has also undergone some significant editing.
The Autoweapon, Sniper, and Surgeon skills have been heavily nerfed. I strongly reccomend opening the user and 1.13 SkillSettings.ini files alongside each other and undoing the changes. You may want to keep his changes to throwing/demolitions however, as those are actually kind of cool.I'm also following your guide, I'm struggling with this part though. Are those two files quite different?I've opened one that's in Data-User and the other Data-1.13.They look different in content but that could just be how they are formatted.
Is there any more info you could give to help out?For example this is 25 in the user one, but 30 in 1.13, does that mean I should change the one in user to 30? If I just remove the lines from user won't it use the 1.13 values?Auto WeaponsAUTOFIREPENALTYREDUCTION = 30. I downloaded the pack linked in the post above and changed some of the settings in the ini, but the game is sluggish as hell. Only running at 1024x768 and would like to be able to go a little higher (wider probably as I like being able to read the HUD), but it just feels sluggish and horrible.I found an old copy of JA2 on my harddrive with a really old version of 1.13 and that launches and runs perfectly, but i'd like to play the newer versions.I've looked at the windows compatibility stuff and tried to follow what was instructed in the notepad but it doesn't appear to have made a difference.Any idea?. With the modpack, I have a clean Ja2 install, from steam.
I copy all of the 7609 + modpack contents into Ja2 classic.I use the ini editor to set a resolution, disable the intro.Game launches okay but the cursor and menus are sluggish. If I try the game out I can alt-tab but can't get the game back up.I found a guide that says to use files from Wine3D, I grab those files and copy those into the Ja2 dir, the game now runs a lot faster, no longer sluggish but I can't alt tab at all, the menu comes up but Ja2 stays in front of all the other windows.Any advice? Am I doing it wrong or will alt-tabbing never work with Ja2?.
